Network of Enlightened Women 2013 National Conference

As y'all may remember, last week (or was it two weeks ago, now?) I took the train to Washington, D.C., for the Network of Enlightened Women (NeW) National Conference.  The conference was held at the Heritage Foundation and Dr. Christina Hoff Sommers was the keynote speaker.

The conference touched on freedom feminism, a woman's role in the working world, internship opportunities in D.C., professional development, and even some presentations on how other NeW leaders run their chapters.

The Sweet Briar chapter of NeW was awarded the New NeW Chapter of the Year award!  eKj and I were so proud to accept our award and can't wait to see how our chapter improves over the next year!

It's hard to believe that a club that started as a simple book club at the University of Virginia has reached over a dozen campuses.  We were so lucky to get to meet some of the other chapter leaders at the conference.  Some of the other colleges represented were Ohio State, Cornell, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Boston University, and Hillsdale College.

In addition to NeW chapter leaders, many interns from the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups in D.C. were able to join us as well!

Coming home from the conference, I've decided that I want to intern in D.C. next summer!  Have any of y'all interned in D.C.?  Any tips or tricks?

  1. This sounds like such a cool opportunity!!! Congrats on your award! I wish my campus had had something like NeW!

  2. Congratulations on the chapter award! :) Looks like a great time and that'd be cool if you did an internship. It's all about networking!

  3. Seems like an awesome conference! I love your dress too :)

  4. You're so pretty, Becs and congratulations! I'm excited for you to intern in DC next year so I can come visit!
