New Year's Eve Look feat. TINYPRINTS!

New Year's Eve is the perfect excuse to bring out the glitter and sequins.  While you'll find me on the couch in some comfy PJ's this New Year's Eve, I couldn't help but put together an outfit totally ready for an evening out on the town.
new years

I usually go for simpler looks, but New Year's is a time to dress it up a little bit more.  I paired this white and black J. Crew stripped mini with a black top with sequined sleeves.  To bring out the gold in the skirt, I paired the outfit with bold gold jewelry and gold glitter nailpolish.  (P.S. Butter London Westend Wonderland is my favorite glitter nail polish!  It only takes two coats to be completely opaque!)  Add a simple pair of black pumps (and some black tights if it's chilly) and you've got a fairly simple outfit with some pizzazz!

This outfit was inspired by some of tinyprints holiday invitations.  Aren't they the cutest?  I loved the gold and black designs that played on metallics and glitter!  A new tinyprints feature is the ability to change the trim of the cards.  As you can see below, I used the scallop trip on the pop, fizz, clink cards and a fancier cutout trim on the Happy 2014 cards.

My favorite part?  Tinyprints takes everything into account when designing their cards.  They allow for so much customization, from font colors to including pictures.  Then, they take care of the hard part!  Some of the designs even have matching return-address labels!

Aren't the backs of these cards even stunning?

I am just obsessed with these tinyprints designs...makes me wish I was having a big New Year's Party that called for some fancy invitations!

Why Country Music in 2013 Was "Awful"

I don't know about y'all, but I listen to a lot of country music.  My car playlist is full of Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, and some of my other favorite country artists.  However, if you listen to a bunch of "pop" Country back to back...you'll realize that most of the songs have the same theme.

This video nails it right on the head.  I was seriously dying laughing the first time I watched it!  Since then I've probably watched it another four or five times because it is so hilarious!

What do y'all think?  Accurate?

Belated Merry Christmas

Belated Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to all of my blog friends!
{via Lilly Pulitzer}
I hope y'all had as great of a Christmas as I did!  The best part, even more than the presents and cookies and pineapple stuffing, spending time with my parents and sister.  After weeks of long nights in the library, I crave quiet time with my family.  What could be better than Christmas Movie marathons that last long into the night with the people that I love most?  Nothing!

How do y'all celebrate the holidays?

The City That Doesn't Sleep

Yesterday my family went on a day trip to New York City.  My sister is currently working in the city, so she showed us around.  I hadn't been in a few years, so it was refreshing to being in the hustle and bustle of a big city again.  But, it did make me realize that maaaaaaaybe I don't want to get an internship there this summer.

My favorite part of the day was lunch.  We went to Veselka, a Ukrainian restaurant, in the East Village.  The food was delicious and well worth the wait!  We knew it was going to be good when it was the only restaurant in that area that we saw with a line of people waiting outside.

It's Better To Give Than It Is To Receive

I firmly believe that buying and giving gifts is much better than receiving them.  Since Christmas is only a few days away, if you haven't done any shopping yet, I'd recommend you hop to it!  That's why I've put together a list of easy to find gifts in a range of prices.  These gifts would be perfect for your friend, roommate, sister, or maybe even mother!

Kate Spade Thermal Cup / Tervis Tumbler / Alex & Ani Bracelet / C. Wonder Tote / Moleskine Notebook / Bath & Bodyworks Hand Sanitizer / Bath & Bodyworks Mason Jar Candle / EOS Lip Balm Set / Baggu Nylon Tote / Essie Mini Polish Cube

What are some of your favorite gifts to give?

Christmas Cookies

I think the saying "go big, or go home" was created to describe my family's Christmas cookie making habits.  We don't just make sugar cookies..or chocolate chip cookies.  No, no, that would be way too simple.  Instead, spread over three days of baking (usually just two, but we got way too tired this year) we make eight, if I'm counting correctly, different types of cookies.

We make chocolate chip, cut out sugar cookies, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, chocolate peanut butter, thumbprint, crescent, and date filled cookies.  Oh, and we don't just make one or two trays of each kind.  Some types, ahem chocolate chip, we QUADRUPLE the recipe and end up with probably 20 trays of cookies.

When you're baking, be sure to differentiate if your recipe calls for cups of butter versus pounds of butter.  If you accidentally use one cup instead of one pound, your "dough" may look more like this...

But then when you mix in the missing butter, bake them, and coat them in powdered sugar, no one really cares because they still taste really good.  But that may just be the powdered sugar talking.

And it wouldn't be Christmas without some festively decorated cut out cookies!

What are your favorite kind of Christmas cookies?

I'm Home!

By a stroke of pure luck and generosity, I'm home!  I got home last night, and luckily the drive home was extremely uneventful!

I was originally going to wait until this morning to drive home because I had a take home Psychology test that had to be slipped under my professors door.  I took one look at the weather report (and my mom texted me about a bajllion times), and we realized that I either needed to drive home on Friday or wait until Sunday.  My psychology professor was kind enough to allow me to scan my final and email it to her to submit, so I drove home last night!

And the best part of today....
it snowed!  It snowed!
Before it started snowing, I ran out to grocery store and just happened to come home with...a new haircut, too!

Of course Alice and I had to play in the snow a bit!

It seems so weird to look at my new haircut!  I must have gotten 6 or 7 inches cut off!

Taking photos in the snow isn't easy (for the model or the photographer), but I'm so happy with how these turned out!
If it's snowing where you live, stay inside!  Cuddle up with a warm blanket (and hopefully a snuggly puppy) and relax!

I am one happy college kid right now.  Only a few things and less than two days separate me from going home for over a month.

(1) Three classes.
(2) One two-hour shift at work.
(3) One take-home, open-book Psychology test.
(3) A 5.5-9 hour drive home.

and the best part...

baking cookies with this girl tonight!
(I actually cannot wait for this.  I haven't seen Breck since before Thanksgiving Break! I can't wait to hear all about her engagement!! AHHHHH!)

In a few days I hope to be back to blogging!

Take A Break

Need to take a study break today?  Look no further...I've pulled some of my favorite Ted Talks and Levo Articles!

Ted Talks range in topic from technology and entertainment to business and global issues.  They are from 3 minutes to 18 minutes long.  Because I'm trying to help you take a study break, I've selected TED Talks that are between 3 and 6 minutes long.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

Another way I like to take a study break is with some articles from The Levo League.  Their articles cover just about every topic for young professional women.  Some are serious, while others are goofy and funny.  Their articles aren't long, so it's the perfect "quick read" between chapters of Psychology notes.

11 o'clock Saturday morning...and I've already been awake studying for over an hour.  That's right, ladies (and gentlemen?), the non-stop studying has begun.

As I dig into a full days worth of projects, papers, readings, and research, Katniss would like to give you some encouraging words...

This is the first time I've ever put a gif in a blog post...but I think it's pretty appropriate.

Study hard, but don't forget to take breaks, get proper sleep and nutrition, and still take time for yourself!

Study Essentials

With finals right around the corner, the only thing on my mind is studying and locking myself in the library.  Although I still have a week of classes before the actual exam period starts, a lot of my work is due before the end of classes.

When it comes to studying in the library, I pack my backpack (I use the North Face Borealis) full of the essentials and intend to spend hours and hours chugging away on my to do list.  There are a few things that I consider essential...

study essentials

A waterbottle to stay hydrated, colorful pens to keep notetaking and to do list making fun, a thermal cup to keep your coffee, tea, or hot chocolate warm, a snack, headphones to listen to background noise or take a quick study break, a back up battery for your iPhone (or a USB cord to charge it with your computer), and highlighters to cross things off of your to do list.

What are your study essentials?

Happy studying y'all!

Glory, glory! I'm a Chung Mung!

The time has finally come!  I am a full-fledged Chung Mung!  My days of wearing my little ghostie friend are over!  Last night was our initiation and I couldn't be more happy!
My mom (Sorority Equivalent : Big), Nina, and I
Cherry Blossom & Gardenia
In addition to our initiation traditions, we also received our hats!  The Chung Mungs are the second oldest Tap Club on campus, so as you can imagine, our initiation traditions are very extensive.  Our hats are another tradition.  Each tap club has a certain color hat with their logo on them and our moms decorate them to show my personality and our lineage.

Mama Neens made me the most adorable box to keep all of my CM treasures in!

Each Tap Class has exactly thirteen members, and I am so glad to call these girls my sisters now!  It has been a long few months together, but we did it!  We made it, and it's just that much more exciting now!

My Tap Sisters! (Sorority Equivalent : Pledge Class)
I am so obsessed with my hat!  Nina knows me so well!  She incorporated Lilly, bows, my monogram, and even a little beagle charm!

What we keep we lose, and only what we give is our own.
Glory, glory, I'm a Chung Mung!
