Fall Fashion: Top Ten

Although my home state of Pennsylvania definitely is a four-season kind of place, central Virginia, the location of my college, experiences these seasons more intensely.  As soon as the leaves start changing to their beautiful red and orange hues and the temperatures dip into the 50's and 60's, I know it's time to trade in my Lilly shifts for my cable knit sweaters.

Unlike my spring and summer wardrobe, some of my favorite clothes for fall are investment pieces.  They're pieces that stay in style forever, and although they cost a little more than your average piece of clothing, they're worth the price as you'll continue to wear them for years to come.

One key to my fall trends is layering.  I layer just about everything...not only to keep me warm on those blustery days, but also for the design aesthetic.  I layer button downs and sweaters, sweaters and vests, sweaters and scarves, etc.

One of my go-to fall outfits is a pair of dark wash skinny jeans with riding boots or bean boots, depending on the weather, a button down under a cable knit sweater, and my Barbour Beadnell jacket.  If it's particularly windy, I'll throw on a scarf while I'm walking to class or the dining hall.

The best part about dressing in layers is that the outfit possibilities are endless.  It is so easy to create a totally different looking by layering different pieces together or changing up the way you layer them.

What's on your fall must-have list?

  1. Riding boots and a cosy scarf! This is my first year with a pair of bean boots so I have a feeling it will be a cycle of work week - wear riding boots, weekend - wear bean boots.
