Study Essentials

We're getting to that terrible point in the semester with midterms, papers, projects, all-nighters, countless cups of coffee.  I have to admit that I seldom pull all-nighters and my marathon library sessions are usually limited to Saturdays and Sundays.  Nevertheless,  I think the key to a study session is gathering all of the necessary tools to maximize the productivity in order to begin minimizing the work you have left to complete.

I have been victim to the dead laptop or iPad more than once.  In my hurry of running off to the library, I've thrown my laptop into my backpack without a charger.  Clearly, I usually intend on spending more than 2-3 hours in the library at a time, so bringing my charger is usually non-negotiable.

I also like to bring a mouse (mine is wireless and connects to my laptop with a small USB chip) if I plan on working on a powerpoint, prezi, or blog post.  The trackpad on my laptop is perfectly fine for most day to day work, but if I need to edit photos or adjust levels, it's way easier to use a traditional mouse.

A stash of your favorite school supplies like colored pens, highlighters, and post its, will make studying easier as well.  Make notes within your articles, highlight quotes you wish to use in your paper, or use postits to indicate where a new topic starts in your text book.  By utilizing some of these tips while doing the reading, although it may take an extra few seconds, will make writing your paper or completing your final project much easier!

Finally, don't forget a snack and drink!  Studying is hard work for your brain, so be sure to properly hydrate and fuel your body.  Dehydration is not only detrimental to your overall health, but a dehydrated brain can influence cognitive function and response times.  Interesting, huh?

In this shot from my instagram, you can see some of my study necessities in action, like colored pens and my water bottle!

What are your study must-haves?

  1. I cannot leave home without my monogrammed Trevis water bottle! Absolute necessity

  2. Love your study essentials! I always have tea, coffee, or my Camelback water bottle nearby.

  3. When I study aside from the things you mentioned, because duh we all need them :P. I always make sure I have something on my lips. It's one of those things that make me focus easier.

  4. What pens are you using with your Day Designer?! I'm trying to decide what to use for next year!
