Celebrate! RVA

Some of you may already know this, but I'm passionate about philanthropy and giving, hence why I want to work in development after graduation.  So when my sweet friend Julia told me about her non-profit, Celebrate! RVA, I knew I had to get involved.

The basis of Celebrate! is that every child deserves a birthday party.  However, when it comes to students at the Oakgrove Bellmead School in Richmond, many of them are not able to celebrate their birthday.  In fact, some of the kids don't even know what day their birthday is.  Celebrate! creates a safe environment full of fun, balloons, confetti, and cake, for the children to have a birthday party.

I had the opportunity to attend the first party of the year in September, and since then, Celebrate! has always been on my mind.  Just like you, I take my birthday celebration for granted.  I receive cards in the mail and goodie boxes galore, but for these kids, a slice of cake, an hour of playing on the school's playground with the University of Richmond lacrosse team, and getting to sit inside a police car is the extent of their celebration.

Oh, did I mention that Julia, the CEO and Founder of Celebrate!, is only eighteen?  And in her freshman year in college?  Talk about a Smart Girl!

Celebrate! RVA's newest campaign is the "Sponsor a Birthday Child" campaign.  By giving only $15 a year, you can help one child be able to celebrate their birthday.  So maybe you have to give up your morning latte for a week.  But trust me, the pure joy and happiness is these kids' faces is enough to give up your Starbucks for an entire year if it means all of these kids get to celebrate.

I was the first sponsor of a birthday child, and I challenge you to sponsor a birthday child, too.

Julia didn't even ask me to write this post.  In fact, she won't even know about it until she sees it pop up in her twitter feed later today.  I write about things I care about, things I'm passionate about...and Celebrate! RVA is one of those things.

  1. Omg, this is the greatest idea I have read, yes every child deserves a Birthday party! Belgium need this too!
