Photo Diary: Maplewood, NJ

I really wish there were more hours in a day so I could easily balance all of the responsibilities I have going on right and still find time to blog.  I've had these pictures in a draft since the last weekend of winter vacation, but time escaped me and I never got around to finishing it up.  While coming up for air last night between papers and cover letters, I decided that a fifteen minute blog break was the perfect solution.

While in New Jersey on winter break, my mom, sister, and I grabbed lunch at Arturo's in Maplewood and then browsed at one of our favorite bookstores, [words].  The three of us had tried to have dinner at Arturo's back in the summer, but their dining area is so small and even though we arrived right when they opened, there was an hour wait.  We decided to go for a late lunch this time, and we were seated right away.

The pizza was delicious, and I could have easily returned to Arturo's for another meal.  I then understood why the wait was so long the last time we tried to dine at Arturo's.  Part of the charm of the restaurant is the small dining room and the aesthetic of the decoration.

The Liebster Award

Thank you so much to Emma from Dash of Serendipity for nominating me for the Liebster Award!  I was nominated way back when I started life with rMe, and it's funny to see how blogs have changed in just a few years!

Where did the name of your blog come from?
It's my monogram!

What's your favorite season and why?

While here at Sweet Briar, spring is my favorite season!  It brings some of my favorite events, and the weather is perfect for sitting out on the dell or hanging in an ENO.  Plus, when there's Spring Fling and Foxfield, you can't really say no!

If you could be invited to any show during fashion week which would it be?
The Kate Spade preview, hands down.  Their stores are always so well curated, so I can only imagine what their show would be like!

Is there any app on your phone you don't think you could live without?
I use instagram A LOT.  Like when I can't sleep, you can find me scrolling through the 'gram.

Finish the sentence: I'm at my happiest when...
I'm surrounded by my friends and family (and my dog!) and just hanging out...especially if there's a netflix marathon involved.

Name one TV character you'd like to trade places with for a day and explain why they're your pick.
Olivia Benson because Law and Order: SVU is, hands down, my favorite TV show.  I mean, I've watched every episode of all 16 seasons, and when I heard that SVU was renewed for a 17th season, I thought that was the best birthday gift Dick Wolf could ever give me.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
At this point in my life, New York City.  I loved living there for the summer, but I know that's not where I want to live forever.  There are tons of places I want to travel and see, because I've seen so little of the world, so I'm sure I'll find a city with less hustle and bustle for once I've shaken NYC out of my system.

What color is your go-to nail polish choice?
Essie Turquoise and Caicos in the spring/summer and OPI Skyfall in the fall/winter.

Are there any jewelry items you never take off?
Well, before I lost the back to my pearl earring last week, I hadn't removed those earrings since....last summer?  But now I've been switching it up and wearing some of my favorite Kate Spade and J. Crew earrings!

What's one thing you can't leave the house without?
I hardly ever leave the house without my phone, chapstick, and a waterbottle.  Sooo can we just make this question what three things can I not leave the house without?

What's your favorite thing about having a blog?
I love the community.  I've met some of the most fantastic and inspiring people through blogging.  I've also received some of the best opportunities just because I have this little place on the internet!  For example, I don't think I would have ever learned about Smart Girls Group without my blog!

Questions for my nominees

What's one piece of advice you wish someone would have told you that you had to find out on your own?

What's your favorite instagram filter?  Or do you edit your photos on another app?

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Are you a cat person or a dog person? (or do you prefer some other kind of animal?)

What did you want to be "when you grew up" when you were little, and how does that compare to what you want to do now?

What are your favorite and least favorite aspects of blogging?

What's your favorite genre of music?

If you could drop everything right now, and money wasn't an issue, what would you do?  Where would you go?

Mac or PC?

What's your biggest fear?

What's your favorite book?  TV show?  Movie?

I nominate anyone who wants to participate!  All of my followers have amazing blogs, and I'd love to hear your perspective on blogging!

Feelin' 22

idk about u, but I'm feelin 22!

..and just in case you want to see some of the pictures my friends chose to post for my birthday...
Surprisingly none of my terrible snapchats came out from hiding!  My friend Amber did post a hilarious picture from the first weekend of freshman year, but unfortunately her instagram is private so I couldn't embed it in this post!

It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters (or in a Lilly "Pop" Murfee) and make fun of our exes (lol @ when I dated someone from my job at the PA Rennaisance Faire).  Thank you, Taylor Swift for providing me with an appropriate anthem for the next 365 days!

Photo Diary: Hoboken, NJ

Contrary to popular belief, I'm still alive and I'm still blogging!  What a crazy last few weeks!  I ended my winter break with a painful double ear infection, came back to school to start my last semester of college, and then my hard drive crashed and I didn't have a laptop for almost a week.  So there's a life recap in a nutshell!

The last weekend before I came back to school, my mom and I went out to New Jersey to visit my sister and celebrate my mom's birthday.  Last spring, while I was still at school, my mom and sister visited Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken.  I was pretty jealous because I was the one who got my whole family into watching Cake Boss on netflix!  Luckily everyone agreed to visit again, and what perfect timing because cannolis and eclairs make a perfect birthday treat!

While the eclairs and cookies were good, my favorite treats were the lobster tails and connolis.  While we were there, we even got to meet Mauro, Buddy's brother-in-law who has a pretty prominent role on the show!

Do you watch Cake Boss?
